Sammanam : respect

Malay in traditional dress

Please bear in mind that Langkawi is predominantly Muslim and many locals are quite traditional in their outlook. If you are walking to yoga class through the kampong please respect local sensitivities and avoid wearing overly revealing clothing (e.g. bikinis or speedos). This applies to both men and women. During yoga class you may dress as you please.

Disclaimer: In November 2008 the Malaysian National Fatwa Council shocked the world by imposing a fatwa on yoga in Malaysia. According to this ruling Muslims may not practice yoga in Malaysia.

Yoga Now is obliged to respect this ruling and does not accept any Muslims for our yoga classes, yoga workshops or any of our yoga retreats held in Malaysia. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or offence this may cause and we thank you for your understanding.
